Griz/Cat, Cat/Griz, Brawl of the Wild....

It's all the same. Call it what you will but I think it has to be one of the best rivalries in college football. 103rd meeting. There's not a lot of other teams out there that can say they've played each other 103 times. And it takes place in MONTANA you say? Well, of course it does, because it wouldn't be Griz/Cat if it didn't take place on the frozen tundra of Montana in sub-zero temperatures. This year is for the kit and caboodle of the Big Sky Championship. Why should we care you ask? Well, for those of you familiar with Div. I-AA football, there are playoffs that lead to a National Championship. And the winner of the Big Sky Conference gets an automatic bid into said playoffs. Now having said that here's the deal on the season. Montana lost twice this year. But the one Big Sky team they lost to also lost to Montana State. So if Montana State BEATS Montana then Montana State shares the Big Sky championship with Montana and THEY get the automatic bid into the playoffs. Are you confused yet? Regardless of whether Montana wins or not, they'll be going to the playoffs, but they lost last year after a 16 year losing streak. That means that it's a matter of pride for the boys from Missoula...not just a chance for the playoffs. And the Griz get mad enough when someone beats them, but to beat them in Washington Grizzly stadium and to dance on the Griz in the center of the field pains me to see. So this year they're playing in the sandbox in Bozeman and they should beat the kitties soundly. :) I'll let you all know on Saturday night.
